Frequently asked questions
Straight answers about INMB, moving from YNAB, pricing and your data.
General
What is INMB?
INMB (“I Need My Budget”) is a budgeting app for zero-based budgeting: you give every franc you have a job before you spend it. It works like YNAB — Ready to Assign, categories, targets, credit card payment categories and reports — and is hosted in Europe.
It costs CHF 6.90 a month or CHF 69 a year, and every account starts with a 30-day free trial without a credit card.
What is zero-based budgeting?
Zero-based budgeting means you budget only the money you actually have today, and you assign all of it — to rent, groceries, savings, next year’s holiday — until nothing is left unassigned.
When you spend, the money comes out of its category. When something costs more than planned, you move money from another category. That way your budget always shows what you can really spend, not what you hope to earn.
What is “Ready to Assign”?
Ready to Assign is the money you have that hasn’t got a job yet. Income lands there first; you then assign it to categories.
Green means you still have money to assign. Zero means every franc has a job. Red means you’ve assigned more than you have — move money back from a category to fix it.
Which languages is INMB available in?
The app itself is in English for now; this website is available in English and German. Number and date formats are set per plan — for example CHF 123'456.78 and DD.MM.YYYY, the defaults for new plans.
Switching from YNAB
Is INMB like YNAB?
Yes. INMB follows the same method and the same concepts: Ready to Assign, category groups, targets, credit card payment categories, the account register with splits and transfers, scheduled transactions, reconcile, age of money and reports. If you know YNAB, you know INMB.
The main differences: INMB costs less, stores your data in Europe and imports Revolut statements via Telegram. YNAB offers native mobile apps, automatic bank connections and shared budgets, which INMB doesn’t have. INMB is not affiliated with YNAB LLC.
How do I move from YNAB to INMB?
1. Start your INMB trial at budget.netcope.ch/signup.
2. In YNAB (app.ynab.com), open Account Settings → Developer Settings and create a new personal access token. Copy it.
3. In INMB, open Settings → Migrate from YNAB and paste the token.
4. Select the plans you want to bring over and start the migration. It runs in the background.
5. Check the verification report: INMB compares every month, category and account with YNAB’s numbers and shows “Verified” or exactly which values differ.
Afterwards you can delete the token in YNAB. The migration only reads from YNAB, so your YNAB account stays unchanged.
Will my YNAB integrations and scripts keep working?
In most cases, yes. INMB’s API at https://budget.netcope.ch/v1 mirrors the YNAB API: same endpoints (including the legacy budgets paths), same JSON, same error format. Migrated plans keep YNAB’s original IDs and server knowledge, so stored IDs and delta syncs keep working.
Change the base URL and use an INMB token instead of your YNAB token. Tools that don’t let you change the base URL can’t be pointed at INMB.
Can I keep using YNAB while I try INMB?
Yes. The migration copies your data and doesn’t change anything in YNAB. If you keep working in YNAB during your trial, you can migrate again later with “Replace plans I imported before” to refresh your INMB copy. Changes made in INMB since the previous import are replaced in that case.
Is INMB affiliated with YNAB?
No. INMB is an independent product and is not affiliated with, endorsed by or sponsored by YNAB LLC. YNAB is a trademark of YNAB LLC. We mention YNAB because INMB uses the same budgeting method and a compatible API, and because it makes switching from YNAB easy.
Pricing & subscription
How much does INMB cost?
CHF 6.90 a month or CHF 69 a year (two months free). Both include every feature — there are no tiers or add-ons.
Payments are handled by Stripe. INMB never sees your full card number; we only see the card type and the last four digits.
What happens when my free trial ends?
Nothing is charged automatically — we never asked for a card. Before or after the trial ends, choose monthly or yearly under Settings → Plan & billing. If you subscribe during the trial, your first payment is due only when the trial is over.
If you don’t subscribe, your plans are locked until you do. Your data isn’t deleted when the trial ends: you can still export it or delete your account at any time.
Can I cancel anytime?
Yes. Cancel under Settings → Plan & billing with one click. You keep full access until the end of the period you’ve paid for, and you won’t be charged again. Changed your mind before then? Resume the subscription in the same place.
You can also switch between monthly and yearly, update your card and download invoices there.
Do you offer refunds?
The 30-day trial is free and needs no card, so you can try every feature before you pay anything. Refunds after a payment are covered in our Terms of service, under “Refunds”.
Cancelling stops all future payments, and you keep full access until the end of the period you’ve already paid for.
Is there a free plan or a student discount?
There’s no free plan and no student discount at the moment — just the 30-day free trial. If you have a promotion code, you can enter it at checkout. The yearly subscription works out at CHF 5.75 a month.
Features
Do you connect to my bank?
No. INMB has no automatic bank connections and never asks for your online banking login. You enter transactions yourself, import statement files (CSV, OFX, QFX, QIF) or send Revolut statements to your Telegram bot. Scheduled transactions take care of recurring bills.
Entering spending yourself takes a moment, but it keeps you aware of where your money goes.
How does the Revolut import work?
Export a statement as CSV in the Revolut app. Then either upload it in the account register (File Import) or share it with your own Telegram bot.
For Telegram, create a bot with Telegram’s @BotFather, paste its token in Settings → Integrations and link your chat — a one-time setup. After that, share the CSV with the bot and it replies with a summary.
INMB assigns each currency to the right account and remembers your choice, skips transactions it already has, marks pending payments as cleared once they complete and compares the balance with the statement. /undo reverts the last import.
Which currencies does INMB support?
Each plan has one currency. When you create a plan you can choose CHF, EUR, USD, GBP, CAD, AUD, JPY or SEK; plans migrated from YNAB keep their currency format.
Like YNAB, INMB doesn’t convert between currencies. If you manage money in several currencies, use one plan per currency. The subscription itself is billed in Swiss francs.
Is there a mobile app?
There’s no app in the App Store or Google Play. INMB runs in your phone’s browser with a layout made for small screens, so you can enter transactions and check categories on the go. Add it to your home screen for one-tap access.
Can I share a budget with my partner?
Not yet. Right now each plan belongs to one INMB account, and you can’t invite a second person to it. If shared budgets matter to you, let us know — it helps us decide what to build next.
Security & privacy
Is my data safe?
We take it seriously. Every connection uses HTTPS. Passwords are hashed with scrypt, and secrets such as two-step verification keys and Telegram bot tokens are stored encrypted. You can protect your account with passkeys and two-step verification, and see and sign out all your devices.
The admin tools show your email address and sign-in details (signed-in devices, passkeys, API tokens), plan names and how many accounts and transactions they hold, and your subscription status — never balances, transactions, payees or categories. Your budget isn’t end-to-end encrypted, because the server has to read it to calculate your budget.
Where is my data stored?
In Europe: INMB runs on servers in the European Union (Amazon Web Services, Frankfurt region). Payments are handled by Stripe. If you enable the Telegram import, the files you send to your bot pass through Telegram. Details are in our Privacy policy.
Can I export my data?
Yes, any time. Export a plan as JSON (the same format as YNAB’s API) or as CSV (register and budget). Export stays available even when your trial or subscription has ended, and you can delete your account and all its plans in Settings.
Do you sell my data or show ads?
No. We don’t sell or rent your data, we don’t show ads and we don’t use analytics or tracking tools. Your subscription pays for the service — that’s the whole business model.
Do you support passkeys and two-step verification?
Yes, both. A passkey lets you sign in with your device’s fingerprint or face unlock, or a security key — no password to type and nothing to phish. Two-step verification adds codes from an authenticator app, with ten one-time recovery codes as a backup. Set both up under Settings → Security.
Developers & API
Does INMB have an API?
Yes: a REST API at https://budget.netcope.ch/v1 that matches the YNAB API, so YNAB’s API documentation applies. Authenticate with a personal access token (Settings → Developer Settings) or build an app with OAuth 2.0. See the developer page for examples.
The rate limit is 200 requests per rolling hour per token — the same as YNAB. Every response includes an X-Rate-Limit header with your current usage; delta requests (last_knowledge_of_server) help you stay well below it.
